Comedienne Paula Poundstone, the national spokesperson for the Association of Library Trustees Advocates Friends and Foundations, will appear in Carson City the evening of Oct. 26. The Friends of the Carson City Library, which is sponsoring the event, said she will appear in concert in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. that Friday night.“If you haven’t been to your library lately,’’ Poundstone said in pre-event comments, “you’re overdue.” She finds it amusing that people think of libraries as quiet places because, she said, they are “raucous club houses for free speech, controversy and community.” She said librarians have stood up to the Patriot Act, sat down with toddlers and reached out to illiterate adults.Poundstone, recently inducted into the Comedy Hall of Fame, is a regular on the National Public Radio news quiz show “Wait, Wait...Don’t Tell Me” and has been recognized as one of Comedy Central’s 100 greatest stand-up comics.“There’s Nothing in This Book that I Meant to Say” was her first book and she is working on a second.Tickets for Friday’s show are priced at $35 and $45. They may be obtained at www.ticketderby.com/event/paula-poundstone-id-9193, by calling Phyllis of the local library friends’ organization at 775-885-9807, or by taking a check to the local library’s Browsers Corner Book Store.
