RENO - Reno High's volleyball team knocked off Carson, 3-0, in a Division I match Tuesday nght.
The Huskies won 25-12, 25-15 and 25-17 to drop Carson to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in Divison I play.
"They fought thmselves tonight," coach Robert Maw said. "They couldn't figure out the team concept tonight. We had six players out there instead of one team. We faced a little bit of adversity, and we didn't handle it well."
Freshman Julianna Anderson had a solid Northern Nevada debut with two aces and three kills. Maw also lauded the play of Gabby Palazzolo, a middle blocker.
Savannah Smith had four kills and three digs, while Brooklyn Maw had five digs. Kammy Forrest and Kenzie Price had three blocks apiece.
Carson hosts Hug Thursday at 6 p.m.
TENNIS
CARSON GIRLS LOSE
Ellise McGowan led the Carson girls tennis team with two wins in a 13-5 loss to Galena on Tuesday.
McGowan won 7-5 and 6-4. Katherine Breeding won a match, 6-2.
In doubles, Amanda Breen and Sydney Coolbaugh won 6-4, and Tess Corda and Makayla Ragnone won 6-2.
Carson, 1-2 overall, plays Hug on Thursday.
CARSON BOYS LOSE
RENO - Galena rolled to an easy 15-3 Sierra League boys tennis win over Carson Tuesday afternoon.
Josh Breen grabbed a 6-1 win in singles, Carson's only victory in singles.
In doubles, Jace Zampirro and Trevor Solleberger won one set as did Kyle Kunz and Sam Bruketta.
VOLLEYBALL
Dayton wins title
WINNEMUCCA - In a game reported too late Saturday for deadline, the Dust Devils won seven matches to win the State Farm Classic.
Dayton is now 14-1 overall.
Dayton knocked off Fernley in the finals, winning 26-24, 25-16 and 25-23. Madi Foley had 20 kills and 11 digs in teh championship match. She had 20 kills in an earlier match against Fernley. Ashley Vickers had 11 kills and 11 digs in the final match, while Alyse Fletcher and Peach Coons added 19 and 13 assists, repectively.
Dayton visits Sparks today.
VIRGINIA CITY WINS OPENER
EUREKA - The Lady Muckers spotted Eureka the first game and then won three straight to win the match, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-14 over the weekend.
Corinna Obermayr had 14 kills and 13 digs, while Jamie Poston added 13 kills and 15 digs. Niki Dagostino added 13 kills.
The JV lost in two straight to Eureka, 14-25 and 15-25.
Sierra Lutheran knocks off Excel
The Sierra Lutheran volleyball team defeated the Excel Christian Warriors on Tuesday.
The Falcons won 25-20, 25-10 and 25-23.
Leading Sierra Lutheran was Cali Benton with 12 aces, a kill and 11 assists. Cheyenne Contreras added four aces, four kills and three digs. McKinze Tynes had an ace, six kills and two digs. Hanna Rutherford added two aces, a kill and three assists. JV action was a split decision with the Falcons winning the match 19-25, 25-22 and 15-12.
The Falcons travel to Hawthorne for their next match this Saturday.
