DUI checkpoint cites drivers for seatbelts, license violations

No drunken drivers were found or arrested the Sunday before Labor Day, but 1,795 vehicles passed through the DUI checkpoint.

The checkpoint, set up between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., saw one person arrested on a warrant, the Carson City Sheriff's Office said.

Two people were cited for possession of marijuana.

Twenty-six people were cited for not wearing a seatbelt or driver's license violations and five vehicles were towed, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

Although deputies made no DUI arrests, 41 people performed field sobriety checks, and all of those drivers were released.

"For the number of vehicles that passed through, I'm happy with the results being so low," Sloan said. "This tells me that the message about not driving under the influence is getting out there."

Six people were arrested over the Labor Day weekend in Carson City on alcohol-related offenses.
