Move over high school athletes, it is time for the future stars of Fallon athletics to shine.

Third through fifth graders hit the track at 9 a.m. today at the Ed Arciniega Complex for the annual elementary track meet. The athletes will participate in the 100- and 400-meters, the 1-mile run, 4x100 relay, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus.

Steve Heck and Paul Orong, the Fallon varsity boys and girls coaches, respectively, will oversee the event while their athletes run the meet.

Heck said the high school athletes will give short demonstrations to the younger competitiors in each event, then let the youngsters loose.

The youth participants can register at the track today, and can choose specific events. Cost is $20 and includes a free T-shirt until supplies last.

In addition, ribbons for first through sixth place will be awarded to the athletes.

“It’s a good, fun time and we hope people come out,” Heck said.
