Nevada’s newest assemblyman is learning the ropes at the Nevada Legislature.
Tyrone Thompson received a standing ovation when he was introduced Thursday in the Assembly chambers.
Thompson was appointed by the Clark County Commission earlier this week to serve in Assembly District 17. He replaces Steven Brooks, who was expelled by the Assembly in March following a series of public and disturbing incidents that left fellow lawmakers in fear of him.
Thompson will be sworn in on Wednesday. He will serve on the judiciary, natural resources, health and human services and legislative operations committees
Hours after his March 28 expulsion, Brooks arrested in California following a car chase and struggle with police.
He was indicted Wednesday in Las Vegas on a felony firearms charge stemming from an incident in January.
