Ernst tops 100, long jump

In preparation for their final two meets of the season, the Fallon track teams had a strong showing at a six-way event Wednesday at the Ed Arciniega Complex.

Senior sprinter Tyson Ernst won the 100-meter race in 11.61 seconds and added another win in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 0.25 inches. He also added a second-place finish in the 200 (23.75) behind teammate Trent Tarner (23.55).

Fallon returns to the track Saturday for the 83rd annual Yerington Relays and ends the season May 4 at the Lowry Invitational. The regional meet is May 10-11 in Yerington.

On Wednesday, though, Fallon competed against rival Elko, Fernley, Dayton, Yerington and Rite of Passage. For Fallon, though, numerous athletes did not compete in the maximum number of events as to rest their legs for Saturday.

The open spots, however, allowed many of the younger athletes to compete.

The Greenwave boys dominated numerous events including the sprints as Wave runners took first through sixth in the 200. In the 100. Nathan Schank added a win in the 800 (2:03.67) followed by teammate Tanner Boone (2:07.84). In the 1,600, Schank placed second with a mark of 4:51.90.

One of the fresh faces was freshman Cameron Matzen, who won the 110 hurdles (16.47) and placed fifth in the 200 (24.20) and seventh in the 100 (11.9). In the 300 hurdles, the tag-team of Nick Marsan and Nathan Heck went 1-3, respectively, while freshman Bryson Abe took seventh.

In the jumps, Jake Ernst (18-4.25) and Marsan (18-3) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Evan Bitter (37-2.5) nabbed second in the triple jump.

The Lady Wave, meanwhile, were led by first-place finishes from Julianne Hale (30-5) in the triple jump.

Elena Murray took second in the 200 (27.22) and fourth in the 800 (2:44.39), while Allison Shirley placed third (2:42.21).

Throwers Emily Coleman and Savannah Lamb each took third in the shot put and discus, respectively. Coleman had a toss of 32.2 and Lamb hit 99 feet in the discus.
