Community made 2nd annual run/walk one to remember

We would like to thank the community for their phenomenal support of the 2nd annual Stephen and Keegan Memorial Run/Walk. We wanted to remember the boys and celebrate their lives. We could not have asked for a better testament of what a wonderful community we have.

The outpouring of generosity from our sponsors: Kaia F.I.T., Team Sports Ink, High Sierra Brewery, Tumbleweeds, McDonalds, Coombs and Beglin Orthodontics, Amerigas, Bi-State Propane, Smith’s, The Purple Avocado, Prestige Car Wash, Big O Tires, Starbucks, DRB Construction, Liaison Salon, Graphical FX Sign Shop, Prime Lending, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Tres Image Salon, Squeeze Inn, Beijing Palace, Villa Basque Deli, Stephen Palazzolo, The Cracker Box, Renovation Spa, Costco and Walmart all made the event a huge success.

We also would like to thank the Youth Theater Carson City for their entertainment and a big thank you to the boys from Carson High School football and baseball teams for helping with the route ... makes your heart smile! The money earned from this event will help so many kids at Carson High School to be able to participate in sports, to build strong friendships and benefit from all of the positive influences that being part of a team can bring. We look forward to continuing this as an annual event to remember not only Stephen and Keegan, but also all of our loved ones who have gone before us. Thank you again.

Nevada Moves Day was a huge success

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who participated in the Nevada Moves Day activities. The state agencies, non-profits, and especially the citizens stepped up to make this a productive event. Biking, walking and other similar activities have obvious health benefits. It is equally important that we teach our children the appropriate safety measures as they bike or walk to school to ensure their well-being. One of our most important initiatives is the Safe Routes to School Program.

The media did a great job in all areas of the state in promoting Nevada Moves Day, and it is greatly appreciated as it brought focus and interest to alternate modes of transportation. This is equally important in the rural areas just as it is in the metro zones. We should continue to strive for more days that include biking and walking in a safe manner as we go to school and work.

An educational booth promoting biking and walking was located at the Legislature. A special thank you to the volunteers who spoke with and educated citizens, legislators, lobbyists, and the others that meandered through the building. I would invite the public to visit our website to learn about related activities, events, and opportunities to be involved.
