Lowden looking at lieutenant governor’s post

Former state Sen. and state Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden of Las Vegas is considering a run for lieutenant governor in 2014.

Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki is termed out at the end of his current term.

Lowden cited her experience as an elected legislator and businesswoman.

“Truthfully, I wouldn’t need much on-the-job training because I’ve already been on the job for many years,” she said.

She said that as a former board member of Las Vegas Events, she has firsthand experience in bringing events to Nevada that generate tax revenue and create jobs without raising taxes.

Former state Sen. Bob Beers, also a Republican, also is considering the office, but Lowden said Wednesday Beers has agreed to serve on her campaign committee board if she runs.

“His decision is that, if I run, he won’t,” she said. “I couldn’t ask for a stronger endorsement than that.”

If she decides to run, Lowden will be in direct competition with state Sen. Mark Hutchinson, R-Las Vegas, who has announced for the post and been endorsed by Gov. Brian Sandoval.
