22 graduate from Western Nevada Peace Officer Academy in Carson

Twenty-two cadets were honored Friday after completing the Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy in Carson City.

The 2013 Western Nevada College graduating class hails from throughout the region:

Carson City: Nathan Cooper, Dana Kincaid and Anthony Viglietta.

Reno: James Angel, Jon Beaumont, Nicholas Collins, Kyle Davis, Charlie Evans, Adam Hall, Derek Jakob, Kevin Lewis, Nefi Perez, Tomas Ramirez, Melissa Reed, Joe Rodriguez and Christina Torres.

Fallon: Chris Bloomfield.

Sparks: Joel Martin, Jacqueline Mitcham, Mike Mitcham, Adam Nicholson and Christian Roberts.

Evans was honored with the Top Gun award. Hall and Lewis were honored with the Top Gun for Emergency Vehicle Operations award. The class valedictorian was Mitcham. Rodriguez was honored with the Sharp Shooter Competition award.

Graduating cadets completed a 30.5-credit law enforcement program that began in January. Along with the academic requirements of the program, cadets were physically required to make a vertical jump of 16 inches, perform 32 sit-ups in one minute, do 30 push-ups in one minute, run 30 meters in 65 seconds or better, run/walk 1.5 miles in 15:30 or better, and complete the Illinois Agility Run in 18.6 seconds.

They are now qualified to take the Peace Officer Standards and Training Exam.

Five graduating cadets have landed positions in Northern Nevada communities with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office; Eureka County Sheriff’s Office; Storey County Sheriff’s Office; and Winnemucca Police Department.
