The magnificent body of infantry from the Washington Guard returned from the picnic yesterday at Bower’s Mansion reaching the depot at seven o’clock. From this point, they marched in beautiful order accompanied by their own band to the Ormsby House where they came to parade rest. There they were entertained without regard with the best Havanas, champagne and whatever else. In all they were highly entertaining and Carsonites will be glad to see them again if they should honor us with a visit.

130 years ago

Tonight Callender’s Minstrels will appear at the Opera House. From the Salt Lake Tribune: “The parade of the Callender’s through the City with pomp and music attracting the attention of everybody ... The theatre last night was crowded to full capacity and the audience was delighted.”

100 years ago

Mrs. Hoyt of Wabuska was bitten by a scorpion the other day which had gotten into the sugar box. The lady’s hand immediately began to swell and turn black. She has now recovered with medical aid.

70 years ago

Through the efforts of Sen. Pat McCarran, a frigate will be named after Carson City to be known as the USS Carson City. The frigate, similar to a destroyer, is about 303 feet long and be used for convoy purposes.

The Nevada Appeal general manager Ed Brown announced today that Ed Allison will serve as editor of the local paper.

30 years ago

To protect medical benefits and overtime pay, Carson City telephone workers have joined their counterparts by manning picket lines.
