The Comstock Residents Association has pitched in to help the Dayton Preservation Committee with a restoration project, contributing $500 to the cause.

The cause is restoration of the historic Dayton Community Center building at Pike Street and Logan in Dayton’s Old Town area. Nancy Cleaves, a board member with the Comstock residents group, presented the check to advance the restoration project in the aftermath of a successful fundraising event in Carson City.

The event at the capital city’s Community Center featured Roy Rogers, slide guitar blues player, singer and songwriter, and his Delta Rhythm Kings.

The Virginia City-based organization said the Dayton center’s restoration is in the Old Town part of the community that once served as Lyon County’s county seat and now is within the Comstock Historic District.

Robin Cobbey, CRA board member from Gold Hill, said the focus on preservation will result in additional donations over time.
