‘Surprising trout’ touted for kids fishing day

The Tom Brooks Memorial Kids Fishing Day this year is set for Sept. 14 at the Baily Fishing Pond near the Fuji Park and Fairgrounds at the south edge of Carson City.

The fourth annual such event, it will be sponsored by the Carson City Host Lion’s Club and about 600 or so participants are expected.

“Here’s the good thing,” said C.K. Baily, avid fisherman, when asked about the event at the pond that bears his name. “It’s not just fishing.”

Baily said there are several other activities to accompany the fishing from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on that Saturday in mid-September.

Included is an inflatable target shooting range being brought in by the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, he said. Also on hand will be Clear Creek Bowmen members to teach archery, he said. Also, the Carson City Capitals baseball program will provide food for a nominal charge.

In addition, Baily said, there will be Japanese fish art, appropriate T-shirts, rods, reels and giveaways to go along with the fun of reeling in fish from the well-stocked pond featuring “surprising trout.”

Baily said children 12 and over need a Nevada fishing license, which can be obtained at such locations as Walmart or Raleys and CVS Pharmacy on Highway 50; however, he said, those 11 and younger don’t need licenses. He said there is no charge for the fishing event.
