Picnic is set to focus on Model T Fords

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will hold an old-fashioned picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Mills Park.

Admission is free, and non-members are welcome. Attendees are invited to bring a dish.

The club will sponsor “Winterize and Unwinterize Your Model T” workshop Oct. 19 to explain the basics of maintaining and driving a Model T.

Tour of historical homes is set in Gardnerville

The Douglas County Historical Society will sponsor a fundraising tour of six historical homes in Gardnerville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14.

Homes on Douglas Avenue and Eddy Street will be open for viewing, including the Arendt Jensen house, the Catholic Church rectory and the original Biaggi and Montrose homes. Participants can park at the Lutheran Church parking lot on Mill Street. Interior photos will not be permitted. Woodett’s Diner, 1492 U.S. Highway 395 N. in Gardnerville, will offer ticket holders 10 percent off breakfast or lunch on the day of the tour.

Public forum about renewable energy is set

Sierra Nevada Forums will sponsor Fueling Change: An Emerging Renewable Energy Era at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Carson City Plaza Conference Center, 911 E. Ninth St. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Workshop about free verse poetry is set

Deana Hoover, author of “Poems From an Ordinary Life,” will teach a beginning free verse poetry workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 28 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.

Students will learn how to turn memories, ideas, and imagery into a poem. The cost is $25 per person or $22.50 for BAC members.

Mystery dinner show is Oct. 5

The Proscenium Players will present “Murder on the Lust Boat” mystery dinner show at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Nevada Room at the Governor’s Mansion. Doors open at 4 p.m.

Football officials are sought for youth games

Youth football officials are sought for the fall Pop Warner and SYFL games. A registration clinic will be held Sept. 3, and a jamboree is set for Aug. 24 in Fallon.

No experience is required, and training will be provided. The SYFL season begins Aug. 31, and the Pop Warner season begins the weekend after Labor Day.

‘Biggest Little Gun Show’ is Aug. 31-Sept. 1

The Carson Nugget will host the “Biggest Little Gun Show in the West” from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 30; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 31 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 1.

Attendees can buy, sell or trade arms, guns, knives, ammunition and old west and hunting collectables. Loaded and illegal guns will not be permitted. Exhibit tables will be available, and exhibit setup will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Aug. 30. Tables must be covered, and covers will not be provided.

Admission is $6 per person. Children 16 years old or younger with accompaniment of a parent and active military and law enforcement will be admitted free.

Soroptimist International of Carson City, American Society of Civil Engineers, Carson Tahoe Health and Tahoe Carson Radiology will host the 12th annual Stroke to Help golf tournament to support breast cancer treatment at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive.
