Carson High School’s football game that had been scheduled for Friday night will instead be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lovelock High School. Dayton High will play at 7 p.m. Friday night at Lovelock High School.

Also, the NIAA has canceled all outdoor athletic events scheduled in Mono, El Dorado, Douglas, Carson, Lyon, Storey and Churchill counties for Friday and Saturday due to present and/or predicted Air Quality Index numbers.

It’s somewhat of a reversal from Wednesday’s press conference when NIAA and Washoe County personnel said that the AQI needed to be under 100 for teams to play, and as of 2:24 p.m., the AQI was 76 in the Sparks-Reno area.

The ruling means that the Hug-Carson game won’t be played at Hug, and the soccer and cross-country events scheduled for Friday also are off. Carson was trying to get the game moved to Fernley, but the ruling wiped out those plans.

Carson athletic director Bob Bateman said that there have been talks with Spanish Springs about playing the Cougars in Redding in the early game of a Foothill-Reed doubleheader. Bateman also said that Superintendent Richard Stokes would prefer his team not travel so far for the game.

Spanish Springs was scheduled to play Manogue, but the Miners didn’t want to travel to Redding. Spanish Springs and the Senators were supposed to meet up in a scrimmage on Aug. 24 which was called off because of the AQI numbers.

Douglas’ game with Reno has been moved to Winnemucca.
