Conference to inspire women set for Sept. 7

Capital Christian Center, at 1600 Snyder Ave., will host the Legacy Conference to inspire and empower women from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7.

There will be live music and guest speakers. Admission is free.

Amateur radio license exam is Sept. 14

An Amateur radio license exam session will be at 8 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Stagecoach Community Center, 8200 U.S. Highway 50 in Stagecoach.

To upgrade an existing license, participants are asked to bring the original license and a photocopy as well as originals and photocopies of any CSCEs. There are no copy facilities on site.

Registration is encouraged. The cost is $15 per person, and checks can be made payable to ARRL-VEC.

Public forum about renewable energy is set

Sierra Nevada Forums will sponsor Fueling Change: An Emerging Renewable Energy Era at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Carson City Plaza Conference Center, 911 E. Ninth St. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Guest speakers include Dr. Alan Gertler, director of the Desert Research Institute’s Clean Technologies and Renewable Energy Center; Jack McGinley, director of regulatory and legislative strategy for NV Energy; Paul Thomsen, director of policy and business development at Ormat Technologies; Marnee Benson, deputy director of Black Rock Solar and David Noble, commissioner at Public Utilities of Nevada. Anne Macquarie, blog editor for Nevadans for Clean Affordable Reliable Energy and a Nevada Appeal columnist, will moderate. Admission is free. Swing dance party and lesson is Sept. 28

High Sierra Swing Dance Club will present its monthly dance party from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St.

Adam Hopkins will teach a free intermediate West Coast Swing lesson at 7 p.m. Partners are not required.

The lesson costs $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers. The dance costs $7 for swing dance club members and $10 for nonmembers. Join the club that night, and the dance is free.

‘Stroke to Help’ benefit golf tournament is set

Soroptimist International of Carson City, American Society of Civil Engineers, Carson Tahoe Health and Tahoe Carson Radiology will host the 12th annual Stroke to Help golf tournament to support breast cancer treatment at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive. Check-in will be at 8 a.m.

The cost is $85 per person and includes breakfast, greens fees, golf carts and lunch. There will be raffle prizes, games and contests.
