Richard “Sugar” Lee Williams

Richard (Sugar) Lee Williams Sr., 77, of Austin Nevada, passed away on November 29, 2013. Sugar was born in Austin on April 25th, 1936. He graduated from Austin High School in 1954. Sugar was married to Susan Strickland on June 8, 1963. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Sugar is survived by his wife Susan, son Richard Williams Jr., daughter

Elizabeth Uhart (Darrell), grandchildren Keenan Williams, Krystofer Williams, Leeann McNess, Dalton McNess, Annamarie Uhart, brothers Ray (Bubby) Williams, Phillip (Poncho) Williams, sister Gail Utter, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.Sugar is preceded in death by his parents Ray Henry and Clara Frances Williams, brother James Williams, and twin sister Mary Lou Woods.After a stint in the military, cut short by an injury, Sugar returned to Austin. He spent a few years chasing horses and was quite a Buckaroo at several ranches around Austin. He spent about a year working in the Apex Mine before going to work for the Nevada Highway Department. He started in Austin, and then moved to Montgomery Pass by Bishop California, where the family spent 10 years. Sugar had the opportunity to move back to Austin where he was an Area Supervisor until he retired from the State in 1987 after a 30 year career. During that time he and Susan also ran the Pony Canyon motel and the Chevron gas station. In 1980 Sugar and Susan built their dream home where they have lived for the last 33 years. After retiring from the State and Motel business Sugar kept busy with his equipment. He loved running the back-hoe, as well as other pieces of equipment he owned. While running equipment he would have a cigar or pipe in action as well as a smile on his face. There are few people in Austin that Sugar has not helped out at one time or the other. He was always there to help, day or night, good weather or poor. He also enjoyed working his turquoise mine and looked forward to hunting with Susan, Poncho and Joan during deer season. He spent much time with his grandchildren and truly enjoyed their company.There will be a pot luck held in Sugar’s honor Saturday, December 14th. It will be at the Austin Town Hall starting at 2pm. Family and friends are invited to stop by and reminisce.
