The troubles of a river-driver and a cord-wooder are not always over when his drive reaches the mill pond, or piled on the bank. He is a mortal and clothed in sin as with a garment, like the rest of us. Some illustrations of this were made evident yesterday in a threatening way. A drink or two too many then some harsh words. Some charges and countercharges and then talk of weapons. There is to be some lawing followed by jawing. Someone, it is claimed, failed to connect on a contract and all hands are at loggerheads.

Following the heels of the shoe war is the jewelry war. M.M. Frederick, the Virginia City jeweler, has hoisted his flag and announces a positive 50 cent on the dollar reduction in price. Frederick says that if his competitors see him and go him any better, he will drop prices again. Frederick is a blooded man and of stubborn disposition and would rather lose than be sidetracked by anyone.

While preparing for one of the merriest and pleasantest Christmas seasons in years, the Raycrafts (one of the best known families in Western Nevada) were shocked yesterday by the sudden and untimely death in this city of the eldest of the Raycraft brothers, James J. Raycraft. Mr. Raycraft was sitting in his kitchen waiting for his daughter, Marguerite, when he was summoned.

Lieutenant Robert Jeppson, who has been stationed at the United States Naval Air Base at Alameda for the past several months, is expected to arrive in Carson this afternoon to spend the holidays with his parents.

Several local residents report the theft of outdoor Christmas decorations over the past few days. Whoever you are, please accept our pity and we hope a few prayers will be said for your very sick minds.
