This column appears in the Nevada Appeal Wednesday health pages. It addresses topics related to the health of our community.
T’was the day before Christmas, when all through the halls
employees were working with nary a pause.
They hurried about, with good Christmas cheer
for keeping folks healthy went on through the year.
To the door of the clinic, the patients they came
and the nurses and staff called each one by their name.
Vaccinations and treatments they happily gave
from illnesses hoping each one they could save.
Knowing a crisis could always come knocking,
Preparedness readied the goods they were stocking,
encouraging people to round up supplies,
for making a kit is resourceful and wise.
Restaurant inspections were still going on,
the health specialists scurrying hither and yon.
Epidemiology gathered reports of the flu,
though Christmas was near there was still work to do!
Human Services hoped there were needs they could fill,
with prescription assistance or help with a bill.
WIC worked with clients to help get them fed,
so tummies were full when the kids went to bed.
And the Chronic Disease folks, they raised up their voices
to share healthy habits and make healthy choices.
Smoking Cessation and Safe Routes to School
And abstinence programs were all really cool!
At Animal Services’ office that day,
The puppies and kittens each wished that some way
Santa could find them all nice, happy places
And families all, with bright smiling faces.
To our town, we wish health, and a day that is bright!
To each, Merry Christmas,
And to all a good night!
