The Curry Engine Company will give a Calico Ball at Moor & Parker’s Hall on Wednesday night next — New Year’s Eve. We predict a huge success. The young gentlemen who have taken this matter in charge don’t make any failures. They know how to have a merrymaking, and they make it when they start for it.

130 years ago

No class of businessmen carry their professional jealousies further than undertakers. They take their rivalries clear to the edge of the grave. A couple of weeks ago, a man died in Gold Hill whose friends wanted him buried in the Carson cemetery.

100 years ago

The big 400-ton capacity mill of the Buckhorn Mining company at Buckhorn, in Lander County, was started full blast Tuesday and is now in shape for a long and successful run. Principal owners are George Wingfield, Henry C. Frick, and J.H. Carstairs. For three years they have been developing Buckhorn claims of over 200 acres.

70 years ago

P.F.C. Paul Laxalt and Robert Laxalt, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dominique Laxalt of this city, arrived home this week to enjoy the holidays with their family. Paul, in the United State Army Medical Corps, is stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Robert is not attending school in Washington, D.C. Upon his return, he expects overseas duty.

All members of the City Council except one voted yesterday in favor of the consolidation of the Carson City and Ormsby county governments.
