Carson City residents can place their Christmas trees curbside on their regular trash-collection day Jan. 6-10 to be recycled.
The tree recycling is a joint program between Carson City and Capital Sanitation/Waste Management Inc. Last year, 59 tons of wood was kept out of the landfill. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch.
Trees also can be taken collection sites Jan. 6-10:
J.C. Penney parking lot
North Town Plaza, near Bully’s
Capital Sanitation, 5560 Sheep Drive.
Carson City Corporate Yard, Butti Way
Trees need to be cut into sections no longer than 6 feet each. All decorations, lights and bases must be removed before recycling.
Trees left curbside after Jan. 10 will be disposed of as garbage and will need to be cut into 3-foot sections so they will fit into the Waste Management trucks.
