Reducing Carson Street would be a mistakeThe reduction of Carson Street travel lanes would be a huge, expensive, disastrous planning mistake.Drivers parking would halt and obstruct traffic, creating dangerous situations. The cars behind not knowing why he stopped now need to back up to give him maneuvering room. Persons exiting vehicles into travel lanes would create an extremely dangerous situation for bicyclists and passing motorists, not to mention those exiting or entering the vehicles. Creating these dangerous situations creates the liability. This effort to produce more pedestrian and bicycle traffic is just what the U.N. Agenda 21 proposes, forcing people out of their cars by restricting traffic. Many similar plans where expensive changes were constructed and then added the expense of unconstructing them when they prove to be a bad mistake. The simple and cost effective solution is to not spend planning and/or construction money you do not have.Stuart L. PosseltMindenNewtown killings a tragedy, but abortion is deadlierIt truly was a tragedy when 20 children were gunned down in their school in Newtown recently. I feel for the parents of those children and also for the parents who have children in school, never knowing if their child will be returning home after school because of some mentally ill person interrupting their life.As bad as that tragedy was, it pales in significance with the average of over 3,000 children who are killed each day in the U.S. alone by abortion. Some say guns kill children, but we permit the killing of these 3,000 plus other children in the name of convenience by organizations permitted to do so by our laws. Why don’t we outlaw the killing of children by abortion with as much zeal as we are trying to outlaw guns? Remember, guns don’t kill people. People kill people, just like abortion providers kill children.David SheppardCarson City
