Phone outage impacting communications center

A phone outage has struck parts of Carson City and Washoe County, including Carson City's communications center, which takes all 911 calls.

The communication center in Carson City is having issues placing calls, although it can receive 911 calls fine, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

"They're getting calls from the outside," he said. "The 911 lines are working."

Washoe County is advising residents to use cell phones if their land lines are not operating.
