Sassafras, Mo & Sluggo's owners join up to open Tony's Taco Truck

What do you get when you cross downtown Carson City's Sassafras with Mo & Sluggo's?Tony's Taco Truck, which is in the kitchen area formerly known as the Grill at Mo & Sluggo's. The fare is what one would expect based on the name.A couple of years ago Tony Fish and Jayme Watts, having outgrown the grill space at the Mo and Sluggo's bar at 110 W. Telegraph St., joined forces with Scott Doerr. Doerr had B'sghetti's at 318 N. Carson St., just a few doors from Mo & Sluggo's, and they converted it to Sassafras.“I fell in love with the food and the concept,” Doerr said of the mix offered at the converted Carson Street restaurant. Eight months ago, Dan Shaheen and Rowan Colgan took over Mo and Sluggo's, performed what Shaheen called an “extensive renovation” of the interior, and leased the kitchen to the Sassafras trio to get food service in place.The quintet got together at week's end to discuss their formalized relationship, which they said sounded like a win-win from all perspectives.“We want to be a part of it,” Doerr said of what Shaheen and Colgan, both 1984 Carson High School graduates, are trying to build at their bar.Meanwhile, the trio running Sassafras keeps forging ahead nearby in a different type of eating-and-drinking establishment. The group suggested that food-and-drink-service firms such as theirs will do well as Carson City moves forward.Another change could be afoot: Shaheen and Colgan are contemplating changing the name of Mo & Sluggo's.
