Suspect in bank robbery captured minutes after incident

Within minutes of an afternoon bank robbery at the Topsy Lane Bank of America on Friday, witnesses led officers to a suspect.Jarell Ryan Williams, 26, is being held in Douglas County jail on $125,000 bail on charges of armed bank robbery, bomb threat and making threats or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, lethal agent or toxin.Williams, who has lived in Gardnerville and Ventura, Calif., is accused of entering the bank with an unknown device duct-taped to his body and handing the teller a note demanding money. He allegedly left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a white vehicle. The robbery was reported at 12:54 p.m. Williams was arrested after a tipster who heard the police scanner broadcast reported that a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car was southbound on Highway 395 at Cradlebaugh Bridge. The witness followed the car until it turned left into a ranch's private driveway.According to Douglas County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Pat Brooks, when deputies took Williams into custody at about 1:10 p.m., they found money from the robbery and what appeared to be a simulated explosive device.Williams was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured.Brooks said the FBI was contacted and is helping in the investigation. Williams doesn't have a criminal record in Douglas County. Brooks said prior contacts were limited to a warning for selling door to door without a permit.
