He was son of James and Annie Roberts).120 Years AgoA chip off the old block: Harry Mighels (Carson Morning Appeal editor in 1865) who did so much to give Nevada prominence in her palmy days and to encourage her people when hard times came... has long “gone over the range.” It would seem that his genius was hereditary for his son, P. V. Mighels is employed on the San Francisco Chronicle and is developing much of his father’s ability and promises to keep the name alive in a most creditable manner... 70 Years AgoSheriff Harold F. Brooks and hardware merchant George Meyers had ringside seats to a big blast. Meyers (Geo. Meyers Hardware) had in his stock high explosives in six cases. He had gotten it for use at the prison quarry but it was too shattering to be used in getting out rock... The cases were leaking and so Meyers and Brooks removed the explosive from the magazine, transported it to the old Voltaire mine and touched off the 275 pounds of terrific energy.
