Nevada remains among the most popular destinations for relocating Americans, and northern Nevada is getting its share, says United Van Lines.

The household mover based in St. Louis said last week that Nevada ranked third in its annual study of inbound and outbound moves.

About 58 percent of United Van Lines' business in the state came from inbound residents as opposed to those who are moving away.

In the three major counties of northern Nevada - Washoe, Elko and Carson City - United said slightly more than 55 percent of its business came from inbound moves. The 55 percent figure is a benchmark that the company uses to define a "high inbound" location.

United said it handled 330 inbound moves and 267 outbound moves in the three counties during 2012.

This compares with 380 inbound moves and 301 outbound a year earlier.

The top two locations nationally for inbound moves were the District of Columbia (64 percent inbound) and Oregon (61 percent), a United executive said.
