PREP: Evans sparks Dayton boys

DAYTON — Jessie Evans scored 23 points to lead Dayton to a 46-38 win over Silver Stage in a Northern IA boys basketball game Friday night.The win upped Dayton’s record to 6-11 heading into today’s 3:30 p.m. battle at Lovelock.“We were up and down,” Dayton coach Jason Santos said. “We had turnovers and were inconsistent in our execution.“Jessie hit a couple of 3s. He had a mismatch. They were double-teaming Bernardo (Macias) inside and that left him isolated on the right side of the floor.”Dayton led 30-21 after three before getting outscored 17-16 in the final quarter.Macias finished with 10 points and Jayson Fraser added six.JV BOYS BASKETBALLCARSON 47, DOUGLAS 41MINDEN — Asa Carter scored 18 points and Ian Schulz added 10 to lead the Senators past the Tigers.Chris Azevedo added seven and Brandon Ruf contributed six.VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALLDAYTON 52, SILVER STAGE 24DAYTON — The Dust Devils bolted to a 32-11 first-half lead and coasted to a 28-point win Friday night in a Northern IA game.“Defense was tough, especially in the first quarter,” Dayton coach Cliff Serawop said. “We tried to keep them contained. We pressed and forced some turnovers.”Dayton played without Cheyenne Strong, who still is nursing a sore ankle. She’s expected to be out another week, according to Serawop.Maribel Ledezma led Dayton with 15 points, while Lettie Lynch added eight. Gemma Ramirez and Ashley Sandy added six apiece. Destinee Serawop added five.Dayton visits Lovelock today at 2 p.m.JV GIRLS BASKETBALLDOUGLAS 36, CARSON 26Carson fell to 9-1 in league after a 10-point loss to the Tigers.Michelle Perry led Carson with 10 points and Ivy Pembrooke chipped in six. Carson returns to action today at 1:30 p.m. against Galena at Morse Burley Gym.FRESHMEN GIRLS BASKETBALLCARSON 37, DOUGLAS 29The Carson girls freshmen team knocked off Douglas 37-29 on Friday at Morse Burley Gym.Free throws made the difference for the Senators, according to coach Nick Halen.Brianna Alvarado scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. She added three steals. Melissa Glanzmann led the team with 11 points. Bailey Allen added seven rebounds and five steals. Andrea Maffei had five points, all free throws, seven rebounds and eight steals. Taylor Weddell added eight points, pulled down three rebounds and had three steals.
