Carson man arrested in beating of drunk teen

A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday evening, a day after he allegedly beat a 17-year-old Carson City man who was causing trouble at a party, leaving the teenager with a swollen head and face.According to a police report, Phillip Muckenstrum told a deputy that a friend of a friend with whom he was driving Saturday night asked for help in dealing with the 17-year-old, who had been drinking heavily. The beating victim had a blood-alcohol content of 0.31, according to the report.Muckenstrum and his friend drove to the house near Colorado Street, found the teenager and, after some arguing, got him to leave and followed him out of the house. Muckenstrum stated that the arguing continued and he wound up being punched four times in the face.Muckenstrum then began to beat the victim until he fell onto the ground, and continued the beating even after the victim had fallen, the arrest report alleges.Two witnesses who were with the victim told a deputy they were at the party when the victim began trashing the house, smashing “whatever he could find,” according to the report. The witnesses then went upstairs to hide in case the police were called.A few minutes later, one of the witnesses went outside and saw a man on top of the victim in the driveway, punching him in the face and slamming his head into the ground, the arrest report states. The witness said he attempted to pull the man off of the victim but was unsuccessful. Eventually, several people were able to pull him off of the victim, according to the report.Two other friends of the victim found him slumped over on the curb and, with help, loaded him into their car and drove him to the hospital.Muckenstrum told officers he felt obligated to help the man whose house was torn up because he tried to be “a good friend to people.” Muckenstrum came to the sheriff’s office to discuss the incident and was arrested there. His bail was set at $10,000.
