Susan Hood and Kathy Archer teamed up for a net 59 to win the Fourball stroke play event at Thunder Canyon on June 28.
Barbara Plymell and Shirley Westfall were second at 63, while Jane Beckett and Donna Schellin were third with a 68. Theresa Beggs was the closest-to-the-pin winner.
The men held a Cha-Cha-Cha event with Glenn Tsua and Paul Ricciardi, and Mike Judge and Larry Easterling scoring a 129. Chuck Griffin and Fran Menante, and Saul Singer and Vern Hamilton were at 131, while Burt Clements and Tom Brennan, and Mike Bennert and Jack Bonar were at 133. Jerry Hughes, former NIAA commissioner, was the closest-to-the-pin winner.
Ming Wong qualifies for amateur
Shuai Ming Wong shot a 139 at Red Hawk Resort to qualify for the upcoming USGA Junior Amateur at Martic Camp Golf Club in late July.
The alternates are Samuel Kim and Dean Sakata, both of whom finished at 1-under-par 141.
Dayton team tied for 5th
T.J. Duncan, Donald Boyle, Shane Conner and J.T. Cockerill shot a 16-under 56 to tie for fifth place at the NorCal PGA 4-Pro scramble event at Somersett Country Club on Monday.
Charlie Gibson, Peter Mason, Mitch Thomas and Philip Dawson were the winners at 19-under-par. Stuart Smith, the PGA director of golf at Somersett, had a hole-in-one but his team finished out of the money.
Teague wins Empire event
Henry Teague shot a net 61 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club stroke play event on June 26.
Alan Citron, John Tierney and Chuck Bell tied for second at 62. Bob Pitcock won the B Flight with a 62, while Walt Blizzard, Mike Vadnais and Gary Mick tied for second at 64.
Joseph O’Brien won Flight C with a 61, while Vic Roscha was second with a 63 and Bob Pluth was third with a 64.
Nils Sharpe, Roscha, Dale Guy and Tierney were closest-to-the-hole winners.
• From July 4 to 7, Empire Ranch is hosting a special event. With your paid green fees, you can sample ribs and chicken. Golf and food for $40, and it’s $35 for seniors 60 and over. Poe wins at CVGC
Charles Poe shot a net 68 to win the A flight at the Carson Valley Golf Club’s Men’s Club event on June 30.
Roger Hala was second at 69, while Bill Allen and Ewald Burmeister tied for third at 71. John Carey won the B flight with a 65, two strokes ahead of Bob Van Nort and three ahead of Paul Lockwood.
Flag football in Douglas County
Sign-ups are being taken for the NFL Youth Flag Football League.
Each player receives a reversible NFL flag jersey, mouthpiece and individual award. There are four age groups — 5-6 coed, 7-8 coed, 9-11 coed and 12-14 coed. Players must be at least 6 by Sept. 15 and not 15 by the same date. The cost is $75 for the youngest division, $80 for the other three divisions.
Officials and coaches are also needed.
