The Lahontan Valley should be receiving a respite from the punishing triple-digit weather that has baked most of Nevada since late last week.

A high ridge of pressure moved into the Silver State on Thursday causing the extreme heat.

Fallon broke two records over the weekend. Saturday’s 107 degrees snapped the previous record of 106 set in 1931, while Sunday reached 108, breaking the record of 104 established in 2003.

Fallon saw temperatures climb into the hundreds for the second time this summer with several records being shattered. By Tuesday, though a cloud layer formed over the Great Basin, causing temperatures to drop rapidly into the low 90s.

For the rest of the week, though, temperatures will see daytime highs in the mid to high 90s. The National Weather Service’s Reno office is calling for a 30 percent change of thunderstorms for today and Thursday and 20 percent for Friday but clearing for the weekend.

Morning lows will remain in the low to mid 60s.

The NWS said showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast, but some storms may be severe and produce strong winds and locally heavy rainfall.
