RENO — NV Energy and the Desert Research Institute have agreed to renew the GreenPower Program partnership.
NV Energy is contributing $180,000 to the program and $70,400 more to fund expansion of the program’s Energy Wise Educators Academy to schools across Nevada.
The purpose is to teach Nevada’s youth about renewable energy, energy efficiency and other matters. The program offers teachers continuing education credits and a program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math that can be incorporated in middle and high school math and science classes.
The program has helped more than 2000 Clark County students in 2012. This renewal will expand the program to Northern Nevada students this fall.
The money will pay for the GreenPower’s educator training programs set in Las Vegas this week and in Reno next week.
