Gold Dust West Casino and Hotel in Carson City plans a free outdoor concert Saturday night.
Featured will be the 10-member group called Kalimba doing a tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire, a multi-genre band around since 1969.
The “Thank You Carson City” concert is aimed at showing gratitude for seven “great years,” according to organizers at the casino and hotel near the I-580 freeway overpass at 2171 U.S. Highway 50, also known as William Street. The concert begins at 6 p.m.
Helping put on the event are Carson City Harley Davidson, which is providing use of a large moveable stage, and Capital Beverages, which will supply product. There will be a cash bar, but organizers said it is a family-friendly show at which they hope to attract upwards of 600 people.
The event, which is expected to last until about 9:30 p.m., features a group that takes its name from an instrument that is part of Earth, Wine & Fire’s sound.
Along with horns and other conventional instruments, Earth, Wind & Fire on each album had the sound of the kalimba, also known as an African thumb piano.
After the show, members of the group will be available in the Pinion-Sage room inside the Gold Dust West to meet people in the audience and sign autographs.
