Andersen honored for agricultural merit
The Nevada Farm Bureau Federation awarded Rachel Andersen of Carson City the 2013 Dave Fulstone II scholarship for her merit in the classroom and her dedication to agriculture.
Andersen was instrumental in creating the new Capitol FFA Chapter at Carson High School and served as the president and secretary for two years. She has been involved in the High Sierra Riders 4-H club, Arrowhead Livestock 4-H club, National Honor Society, NJROTC Rifle Team, NJROTC Academic Team and Carson County Leadership Group. She served on the youth advisory council for the Nevada Junior Livestock Show.
Andersen will attend Montana State University in Bozeman and will major in agriculture business. She plans on starting her own ranch to raise registered Herefords for show and commercial cattle.

Firefighters present students with scholarships
Storey County Professional Firefighters presented Kregg Lemon and Rielly Stahan of Virginia City High School with the organization’s 2013 scholarship award.
The students were each presented with $500 scholarships. They plan on attending the University of Nevada Reno in the fall.
Nevadans named to dean’s list at University of Montana
Rebecca Connet of Dayton and Madeline Hull-Taylor of Yerington were named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, Mont.
The dean’s list includes students with at least a 3.33 grade point average.
