Margaret Ann Sanborn, 81, passed away July 17, 2013 in Carson City, NV. Margaret was born March 23, 1932 in Superior, WI to Theodore and Margaret Gunderson. Margaret married Walter “Russ” Sanborn in 1953. She left Superior to accompany her husband when he went into the Air Force on active duty in 1955.
Margaret had been a resident of Carson City since 1986. Prior to that she resided in Incline Village, NV for nine years and Anaheim, CA for eleven years. She served as a volunteer in the F.I.S.H. diningroom for 7 years and with her late husband, as a prison ministry volunteer for over 16 years in the Carson City prison system. She and her husband received the Northern Region Volunteer of the Year award from the State of Nevada Department of Prisons for 1991.
Margaret sang with the music group at St. Teresa of Avila’s 10:30 Sunday Mass for 15 years. She also enjoyed reading, swimming, needlework and being a grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ, who passed away Nov. 9, 2000.
Margaret is survived by five children, Scott W. Sanborn , Mark A. Sanborn, Bruce E. Sanborn, Valerie A. Gomez and Eric R. Sanborn; one brother, Robert Gunderson; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City, NV on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10:30am. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities in Margaret Sandborn’s honor.
