Pack Pavilion returns to RTO

For the third straight year, the University of Nevada will have a featured presence at the PGA Tour’s Reno-Tahoe Open this week.

The tournament at Montrêux Golf & Country Club begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Coaches, mascots and staff from Nevada Athletics, including new Athletics Director Doug Knuth, as well as University President Marc Johnson will be on hand to socialize with golf fans at the Pack Pavilion, sponsored by Champion Chevrolet. The popular Pack Pavilion is positioned next to the 17th green. Fans wearing Wolf Pack apparel or “Nevada blue” will be admitted for free to the Pack Pavilion and admission for all others is just $5.

“I’m excited to see some world-class golf and to meet more Wolf Pack fans at this wonderful event,” Knuth said. “We’re fortunate to have a PGA Tour stop here in Northern Nevada and it is perfect fit for the University and Nevada Athletics to be involved in such a great community event.”

Knuth will be at the RTO all four days of competition, inside Pack Pavilion and around the grounds at Montrêux. Newly hired Wolf Pack baseball coach Jay Johnson will be meeting and greeting fans during Sunday’s final round.

A number of other Wolf Pack coaches will be on hand at the RTO throughout the week. Women’s basketball coach Jane Albright will be at Pack Pavilion on Thursday. Abby Steketee (swimming), Guillaume Tonelli (women’s tennis) will be there Friday and rifle coach Fred Harvey is among those from the Wolf Pack who be in attendance on Saturday.

Fan’s can join men’s basketball coach David Carter, soccer assistant coach Kirk Nelson, Johnson, Albright and others at the Pack Pavilion during the final round on Sunday.

A Wolf Pack expo tent is also located on the course, in between the ninth and 18th holes at Montrêux. A free shuttle service — the Wolf Pack Pit Stop — is available to take fans from the expo tent to the Pack Pavilion with the Battle Born Beer truck situated nearby.

Tickets for the RTO are just $20 a day with tournament passes starting at $65. Children age 15 and younger are free when accompanied by a paid adult. Practice rounds and Pro-Ams conclude today and the four-round tournament begins Thursday using the unique modified Stableford scoring format.
