Carson High pitcher-outfielder-first baseman Jennifer Purcell was named to the Sierra League’s first team as voted on by the league coaches.

Purcell, who was forced to take on a heavy pitching load this year, compiled a 5-10 record with a 3,02 ERA. She had another sensational year at the plate, hitting .429 with three homers and 24 RBI. Of her 39 hits this season, 11 were for extra bases. She was the bright spot in what turned out to be a 9-22 season and a last-place finish in league play.

Shortstop Bailey Allen, who hit .250, and catcher Kandis Tuttle, who hit .221, were named to the second team. Outfielder Michelle Perry (.258), infielder Sara Brewer (.242) and third baseman-pitcher Becka Breuer (.288) were honorable mention selections.

Kalyn Paque of Damonte Ranch was Player of the Year; Douglas’ Kali Sargent was Pitcher of the Year; and Tierney Cahill of Damonte Ranch was Coach of the Year.

BASEBALL

Luke Maher, who hit .347 with three homers and 26 RBI, was a second-team selection to the Division I all-league baseball team. Maher finished with 26 RBI and averaged an RBI per hit. He was second on the team in hits and runs, and led the team in RBIs.

Gehrig Tucker and Charlie Banfield were honorable mention picks at shortstop and third base, respectively. Tucker led the team in runs (26) and hit (33) en route to batting .388 with 15 RBI. Banfield hit .271 with a homer and 13 RBI.

Chase Blueberg, who compiled a 4-3 record in the regular season with a 5.10 ERA and also hit .292 with a homer, was an honorable mention selection.

TRACK

Corey Reid and Madison Preston walked away with first-team all-league track honors in two individual events apiece this season. Preston also was named the Field Event Athlete of the Year.

All league in track is determined by the finish in the regional meet.

Reid was a first-team selection in the 400 and the high jump, and shared a second team selection in the 1600 relay with teammates Taylor Bradshaw, Dexter Cummings, Zach Heinz, Dakota Baker and Michael Samii. Preston was selected in the triple jump and long jump.

Bradshaw was a first-team pick in the 800, while Baker claimed first-team honors in the 300 hurdles. Freshman Asa Carter was a first-team selection as a triple jumper. Cummings, Bradshaw, Samii and Heinz were first-tam picks in the 3200 relay.

The group of Jessie Balkwell, Cindy Juchtzer, Alex Drozdoff and Evelin Delgado were named first team in the 3200. Athena Favero was a second-team pick in the 300 hurdles, Maddi Saarem was a second-team selection in the pole vault and Teresa Boehmer was a second-team pick in the shot put.
