Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has vetoed his first bill of the 2013 legislative session.

Sandoval rejected SB180, a Democratic-backed measure that would have required courts to award damages, lost wages, benefits, costs and attorney’s fees to workers who prevail in employment discrimination suits.

Existing law caps damages to two years of lost wages and actual damages.

In his veto message Friday, the Republican governor said the bill goes too far by exposing employers to a wide range of damages and fees.

Sandoval vetoed 28 bills from the session two years ago.
