The Oasis Academy Bighorns lacrosse team completed its first season in the High Sierra Lacrosse League in fourth place.
Oasis entered the HSLL tournament with a regular season record of 3-5, which netted them the fourth seed. Oasis opened the tournament with a 10-3 win against fifth-seeded Truckee.
The game featured hat tricks by Nick Delgado and Trent Thorn. Walter Rooks also added two goals. Mason Wagner and Anthony Lombardo rounded out the scoring for the Bighorns.
After the first-round win, the Bighorns advanced to face No. 1 seed Northwest Reno. Despite outstanding physical play and tough work on the ground balls, the Bighorns fell to the Reno Outlaws, 10-5.
Thorn and Morgan McAlexander each scored two goals, while Walter Rooks netted one.
The loss sent the Bighorns into the consolation round against the North Tahoe Lakers, who entered the game with a win over Spanish Springs and lost to South Reno.
The Bighorns lost to the Lakers, 8-5. The Bighorns scorers included Rooks and Wagner with two goals and Victor Sanchez with one.
Several Bighorns players have been invited to try out for the High Sierra Lacrosse League Select Team (under-11 and under-13), which will go on to play in the All-West Tournament in Morgan Hill, Calif. on July 13-14. Most of the Bighorns will attend the Nevada Lacrosse Camp from July 15-18 at the University Of Nevada, Reno.
Next season, the Oasis Academy Lacrosse program will have both an under-13 and a under-15 team in the HSLL. For information, contact coach John Keitz at jkeitz@oasisacademyfallon.us.
