Guy’s right about personal choices; wheat-free is best
This letter is in response to Guy Farmer’s commentary on Sunday. I respect and generally agree with Mr. Farmer’s opinions, but disagree with him on this issue. Two years ago I was a 75-year-old type 2 diabetic. I am not a health nut, but was concerned with controlling my blood sugar by taking prescription Metformin and eating a healthy diet. In early 2012, I found the best selling book “Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight” by William Davis M.D,. a cardiologist who uses the wheat-free diet to reverse, not prevent, heart disease. In the book he outlines all of the negative consequences of consuming bread and processed foods, most of which contain wheat.
Since I wasn’t addicted to bread, like many people are, I decided to forgo eating wheat and processed foods. Within a couple of months my petite lady friend lost 12 pounds and I went from 195 pounds to 180 pounds. I had quit taking the Metformin and my fasting blood sugar went from an average 150 milligrams per deciliter to an average 115 milligrams per deciliter. We both feel better overall and eat as much as we want of pretty much any thing but bread. We can even have an occasional hamburger or hot dog with the buns. As Mr. Farmer said, it is all about personal choices and I am glad I was able to inform myself and make a positive choice that improved my life.

Lawmakers defy public’s will; all deserve to be voted out
I feel that it is necessary to vote all legislative incumbents out of office. The voters voted against gay marriage, now our shady representatives are trying to circumvent our wishes. Whether you are for gay marriage or not, our representatives are going against the majority of voters. They will do it again if they are not corrected. I guess they have been crooked for so long that they think all criminals should get privileges.
I just know that if I see a criminal alien at the Department of Motor Vehicles getting a license, I will call Immigration and Customs Enforcement so they can arrest him or her when they walk out with their new license.
