Rick Beckstrom took the win in Super Comp and has given himself a shot to double-up Sunday at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Top Gun Raceway.

The Novato, Calif., racer ran 9.307 seconds on the 9.30 dial-in for the win over Zachary Meziere of Escondido, Calif. The pair left the line in a close race but Beckstrom was better at the strip for the win which set up a chance at the double-up as he advanced to the final in Super Gas, which will be completed next month at Sonoma Raceway.

A heavy dust storm combined with an incoming thunderstorm forced officials to postpone the final round for Super Gas and for Top Dragster. Beckstrom will face off with Ken Mostowich for the Super Gas trophy at a later date.

Former NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Ryan McClanahan took the Super Stock trophy when he outran Leo Glasbrenner in the final round. The Alta Loma, Calif., resident went 9.349 at 129.79 mph to Glasbrenner’s 10.550, 130.29.

Randy Jones of Monarch Beach, Calif., and Tom Medlin of La Mirada, Calif., won in Comp Eliminator and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series, respectively. Jones was the event runner-up last year but closed the deal on Tyler Hogan this year for the trophy, where Medlin defended his win from a year ago beating John Widmann on his ’93 Suzuki running 8.713 at 144.13.

Mera Silvia ran right on her dial-in at 7.840 to take the win in Top Sportsman over Jeff Gillette in what was arguably the best race of the day. Gillette had the starting line advantage before Silvia came around for her second win of the year having won back at Firebird International Raceway (Arizona) in March.

Earl Blake and Marko Perivolaris rounded out the winners as Blake of Las Vegas won in Stock Eliminator and Perivolaris of Petaluma, Calif., defeated Gary Reust of Pahrump for the Super Street title.

Chris Forsyth will face off with John Richardson in the Top Dragster final to be contested at the next Pacific division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Sonoma Raceway on July 19-21.
