Five Oasis Academy Bighorns made the cut for the High Sierra Lacrosse League Select Team.
The team will compete in the All-West Tournament in Morgan Hill, Calif., on July 13-14.
Midfielder and faceoff specialist Nico Hofheins was selected for the under-11 squad, while Trey Rooks (attack), Mason Owen Wagner (attack), Josh Carter (midfield) and Brenden Leary (goalkeeper) were picked tabbed for the under-13 team. All five are first-year lacrosse players.
“I am really proud of these players and what they have accomplished this year,” Bighorns coach John Keitz said. “They’ll have a great summer of lacrosse and will return even more dominant next year.”
Hofheins was a standout midfielder for the Bighorns this year as an under-13 player. This will be his first time playing in the under-11 group, though. Rooks led the powerful Bighorns attack unit in goals this season, averaging more than one goal per game.
Wagner is another Bighorns attackman with a wicked shot from 15 yards, and is an equal threat left and right-handed. Carter is a defensive midfielder, who typically anchored the defense while always presenting a threat to opponents with his fast full-field run with possession after turnovers.
Leary, meanwhile, started the season on defense, but he opted to play in goal and had a natural instinct for the position. He took a hard shot off the knee in the season opening jamboree that would have sidelined most players, but he got back up and stayed in the cage ever since.
