Drivers tear up Rattlesnake

Despite cooler temperatures, the action at Rattlesnake Raceway is getting hot.

Drivers hit the track Saturday for a points race as numerous drivers are within grasp of a title.

The race for a points championship in the Gen-X class remains tight. Mikki Beauchat sits atop the standings with 184 points followed by Shawn Hartzell (182), Steve Eisele (173), Kalie Pope (171) and Dave Raber (166).

Raber won the main event in addition to a second-place finish in the preliminary heat. Eisel placed third, while Beauchat and Hartzell took sixth and seventh, respectively.

In the Hobby Stock Division, Royce Goetz nabbed his second win of the season, while Aaron Benham placed second. Goetz leads the chase by eight points over Carl Barlow (188-179), while Benham (178) and Wes Washburn (173) are within striking distance.

Steve Evenson, meanwhile, increased his points lead by two in the IMCA track division. He holds a 173-170 lead over Missy Natenstedt and leads Mark Skender by six (173-167).

Evenson took second in the main event, while Natenstedt won one of the preliminary heats, but placed sixth in the main.

In the IMCA division, Pete Olsen made a clean sweep to close the gap on Zachary Cail to eight points (196-184). Cail, though, placed second in both the preliminary and main events.

Chris Neal and Tim Wearin placed third and fourth, respectively, in the main event. Cail and Olsen, though, have set themselves apart mid-way through the season. Lee Ketten is third in the standings with 139 points and did not run in Saturday’s race.

Action at Rattlesnake continues on July 3-4 with the Ironman Challenge, Northern Nevada Outlaw Karts, Gen-X and Hobby Stock classes.

Drivers continue the busy July slate with races on July 13 and 27. Pits open at 2 p.m., while karts start at 4:30 p.m. and other racing begins at 6 p.m. each day.

Admission costs $10 for adults, $8 for military (with ID), $5 for seniors (55 and older) and children under 64 inches. Children 5 and under are free.
