Former Greenwave golfer Matt Vanderbeek added another championship to the trophy case this month.

The 2011 Fallon grad, who led the team to its second state championship, came back from a two-stroke deficit in the Reno/Sparks City Championship two weeks ago at the Rosewood Lakes Golf Course.

Vanderbeek shot a two-day total of 139 to win the event by one stroke as well as $140 in earnings.

Vanderbeek is competing in college at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs and will be a junior in the fall. He originally signed with Webster University after graduation but relocated to Colorado before last season.

Vanderbeek played three rounds in one event for the Mountain Lions last year and averaged 71.33 per round. UCCS matched its best season performance last year after finishing 10th in the NCAA Division II national championships.
