Trick of the Trade. Eureka teachers conversation: First teacher — “I must say I was not a little surprised to find that whenever you put a question to the class, all boys held up their hands and each one you called by name gave the correct reply.” Second teacher — “I may tell you in confidence that you probably did not see I only put questions to those who held up their right hands. The ones who held up their left hands, did not know the answer correctly. We had arranged that matter beforehand.”

Elmer Rickey came down from Kings Canyon construction camp last night hunting a doctor as he had been bitten by a rattle snake. It is not believed any serious results will follow except for Mr. Snake, who was killed.

70 years ago

A Carson man yesterday outlined his plan for canning fruit, despite local scarcity. He says the solution is for two or three family heads to motor down to Placerville, put in a day of picking fruit, return that night with a whole automobile load-full. Gas will be pooled. The plan will work, he says, because of the lack of pickers.

Elected chief to the Warren Engine Company this year was Les Groth. George (Shorty) Gibson was named first assistant chief.
