Summer is here, and so are watering restrictions

Carson City’s Public Works Department reminds residents that summer is here, and water-use rates go up. That increases the need to combat any wasting of water.

Water restrictions began June 1 in Carson City and run through Sept. 30.

The schedule for lawns and landscaping allows watering three days per week based on the final digit of a resident’s address. People living at odd-numbered address may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; their even-numbered counterparts are authorized to water on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is no watering on Mondays.

Watering is restricted to between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the days when it is authorized.

Hand watering is allowed when flowers, shrubs and vegetables need a bit extra, but Public Works adds that people should avoid watering when temperatures are high or conditions are windy.

Exemptions may be requested by calling 775-887-2355, ext. 7397, or by visiting Public Works at 3505 Butti Way during open hours Monday-Thursday.

Exemptions must receive approval and be for local commercial gardeners or commercial caretakers on the premises when watering takes place; on new lawns for 21 days; for vegetable gardens; at complexes that file for and receive approval of an irrigation plan, and to accommodate the handicapped or disabled.
