Homicide at Belmont. About noon Tuesday a man named Jack Copeland was killed in front of King’s Drug Store by David M. Hall, an engineer at the El Dorado South mine. It appears the two had difficulties a time ago in the Star Mine District. Hall was committed to jail until the next grand jury — Reese River Reveille.

Things were worse yesterday and the ledge was not reached. The Bureligh Drill is run ahead about eight feet and the stuff which comes from the drill holes is boxed up and privately taken away. Now we know the insiders have information 48 hours ahead of the public. The mine has only been run for the insiders and their interests only.

Frank Pittman, the Tonopah attorney and brother of United States Sen. Key Pittman, has deserted the bachelor circle in which he has been a long honored member. Pittman and Mrs. Julia Helm were quietly married at Vicksburg, Mass. They will make their home in Tonopah.

More than 500 boys and girls in Nevada will assist in the Victory Farm Volunteer Services this summer, it was revealed today by Ms. Mildred Bray, state superintendent of public instruction.

Edith Fritsch, a teacher in Carson City, died Friday evening. Mrs. Fritsch taught continuously in Nevada schools for 42 years.

The creator of Alley Oop has died at 93.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
