1943 - 2013
Surrounded by family, Karen Frances Smith slipped away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Reno, Nevada. Karen was born to parents, LuVerne and Alfred Breen on May 28, 1943 in Greeley, Colorado. She attended Provo High School in Igloo, South Dakota and graduated in 1961.
After graduation Karen lived in the following cities, Denver, San Francisco and Phoenix where she met and married Denis Smith in 1968. Together with their children they lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Nevada, Texas and returned to Nevada in 2009. She enjoyed a career at Western Nevada Community College and Lone Star College, in Texas, where she retired in 2008.
She was preceded in death by her sister Linda Ahern and her father Alfred Breen.
Karen is survived by her mother, LuVerne Breen of Clearfield, UT; husband, Denis Smith of Reno, NV; daughters, Louise Burcham (Pat) of Chino AZ, Alida Glusman (Evan) of Las Vegas, NV, Laura Henderson (Dave) of Fallon, NV; son, Craig Smith (Debbie) of Reno, NV; brothers, Mark Breen (Barbara) of Holdrege, NE, Bob Breen (Candice) of Roy, UT; sister, Judy Roth of Indianapolis, IN; ten grandchildren with the newest addition due to arrive in November.
There will be a viewing at Walton’s Sierra Chapel, 875 West Second St., Reno, on Thursday, June 27th from 5 to 7 p. m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2 p. m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, corner of Kings Row and Wyoming Avenue in Reno. Prior to the funeral mass, a Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:30. A private family inurnment will take place at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
