This year’s Fourth of July in Churchill County will feature many activities for residents and visitors to celebrate America’s birthday..
Entries are being taken for the parade, which begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Applications for entries must be turned into the Chamber of Commerce by Tuesday by 5 p.m. Nine categories range from best use of theme to automobiles. This year’s theme is Live Fallon. For information on the parade, call the Chamber at 775-423-2544.
In addition to the parade, which will wind itself through downtown Fallon with a plethora of entries, the committee is also placing more emphasis on a “Picnic in the Park” at the fairground’s family picnic area behind the multipurpose building.
According to Natalie Parrish, executive director of the Chamber, the activities at the picnic area will include live music from local bands, games and activities for children, craft and food vendors, bounce house, a watermelon eating contest, open swim at the indoor poor west of the fairgrounds, a baking competition and Pioneer Days celebration hosted by the Churchill County Museum.
Parish said the children’s games include watermelon eating, water balloon toss and finger painting.
Parish said the committee is anxious to attract as many entries in the bake-off competition. The requirements are as follows:
Contestants may enter any or all three divisions: cookies or brownies, cakes or pies
Entries should include a sample to be judged and one for silent auction
Judging will be done by blind taste test and based on appearance, creativity and taste.
Cash prices will be awarded.
Entries must be submitted by noon on July 4.
