Carson-area students winners at Vegas dance championships

Carson City-area students and members of the Western Nevada Performing Arts Center competition dance team participated in master dance classes and competed for cash awards and national recognition June 17-20 at the 2013 Encore Performing Arts National Championships in Las Vegas.

Performers and choreographers were Adam Maw, Erica Basa, Haley Davis, Hannah Goddard, Kaitrin Wilde, Lauren Roby, Lily Nelson, Micah Camp, Ryan Maw, Ryan Vettel, Sarah Miller, Sophia Cacioppo, Taylor Roby and Tess Corda.

Overall awards and/or National Showcase awards went to Ryan Vettel, who was third overall in his division. Vettel’s solo tap routine received honors at the National Showcase for top scoring of all solo, duo and trio. Hannah Goddard was ninth and 13th overall in her division. Sophia Cacioppo and Haley Davis were 10th overall in their divisions. Alex Kaskie, a former student and choreographer, received the top choreography award at the National Showcase for his advanced hip-hop routine, “Initiate Phase I,” which also received a first overall in the teen groups 13-15 category.
