Fire crews from at least four agencies are fighting a blaze in steep mountainous terrain west of Silver City.

The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center received a call of smoke at 1:54 p.m. and shortly after 2 p.m. fire crews began arriving from Storey County, Central Lion Fire District, the Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Division of Forestry. Conditions during the afternoon showed temperatures hovering near 100 degrees with a slight breeze.

Because of the increased traffic involving fire trucks, State Route 341 is closed, but the alternate truck route between Silver City and Virginia remains open.

The Pedlar Fire has grown from 6 to 75 acres as of 3:30 p.m. according to the Sierra Front and is moving east toward Silver City.
